Welcome

Hempel bio '11

Hi, thanks for visiting my blog! My name is Katje Hempel. I am a Brooklyn based wedding and portrait photographer specializing in same-sex weddings, engagements, elopements and portraits. I love my job for one simple reason.  It allows me to participate in, as well as document, some of peoples’ happiest moments.

I am a photographer, but more so, I am a people person.  My formal education lies in Psychology, however I grew up with a dark room in my house, developing photos.  Click here to view a full bio.

I aspire to capture tender moments, and provide you with images that reflect the good in life.  This blog will give you a snapshot into my life; my values, my  point of view, and most importantly to you, the way I work. Enjoy!

Scott and Pamela: A Scottish wedding in Central Park

Such a fun loving couple!  What a way to start out the new year!!  I met up with Scott and Pamela last week at the Lady’s Pavilion in Central Park.  The couple had flown over from Glasgow originally just for holiday, and decided to tie the knot while they were here.  Friends flew in for the occasion from stateside, as well as London and Scotland.  I captured the vows, and then spent a few hours with them being a tourist (in wedding attire).  So. much. fun.  It was one of those days where we kept turning to eachother in laughter and surprise with “did that really just happen?” A few photos from the afternoon:

Paul and Bruce: Married in NYC

This New Year’s Eve my father and Bruce exchanged vows in Brooklyn, NY.  It was the first time that my siblings and I had met Bruce’s three kids.  It was the first time that any of them had traveled to New York City.  Lots of firsts, and lots of good times to show for it.  The ceremony was gorgeous, and it felt wonderful to be able to photograph such a joyful event and share it with my family.  A few photos from the day:

Amazing photos. You should pull out all the cakes from your shoots and make a series, it’s cool to see this one and the next one next to each other…

NYC Christmas: David and Trip

When gay marriage was legalized in New York this past June, Dave and Trip made the decision to exchange vows during the Christmas season in NYC.  The couple traveled from Richmond, Virginia to see the tree, and make their union legal!   They chose Top of the Rock for the ceremony, followed by a meal at the Terrace Club close by with friends and family.  A few photos from the day:
